Porsche announced the Cayman GT4 Clubsport on 6 October 2015, a track only racing version of the Cayman GT4 developed by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach. It was designed to be an accessible, low-maintenance, yet highly capable track car, serving as the first true factory-built race car based on the Cayman.
It debuted at the 2015 LA Auto Show in November and sold through Porsche Motorsport in Germany and Porsche Motorsport North America. The 981 GT4 Clubsport was a sales success for Porsche Motorsport with 421 cars sold worldwide.
The Porsche 981 GT4 Clubsport is powered by a 3.8-litre boxer 6-cylinder engine rated at 283 kW (380 hp) at 7,400 rpm and 420 Nm (310 ft lbs.) of torque at 4,750 rpm, fitted with a unique 6 speed Porsche PDK double clutch transmission operated via shift paddles on the steering wheel.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport weighs 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs.) Fitted with Performance Friction (PFC) brakes and a 12-position adjustable ABS. The standard fuel tank was 90 liters. FIA-approved FT3 tanks were optionally available in 70 and 100-litre sizes. Fitted with an FIA welded-in roll-cage, six-point harness and racing bucket seats. 18-inch forged alloy wheels were fitted with 25/64-18 Michelin slicks at the front and 27/68-18 at the rear.
Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport was homologated for the VLN, SRO GT4 Series, Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA and several other series.
