It is one of the original factory-built 2008 Porsche 997.1 GT3 Grand Am Cup car campaigned by Autometrics Motorsports. It debuted in the 2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series at the 2008 24 Hours of Daytona notably running as the #14 car with drivers Cory Friedman, Anthony Lazzaro, Ralf Keleners and Mac McGehee. It completed 524 laps before retiring from the race with a broken 4th gear. It later raced at the Grand-Am round at Virginia International Raceway (VIR).

It secured major vintage race wins, most notably taking first place during the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) 50th Anniversary of the Porsche 911 held at Daytona International Speedway. The car also claimed sprint/enduro victories in competitive Porsche Club of America (PCA) events at Road America.

Autometrics sold the car in 2010 where it went to Dubai and competed in the UAE GT Series. It later returned to the USA via Canada and ran some PCA events. The current owner purchased the car in 2024

The 2008 Porsche 997.1 GT3 Grand-Am Cup Car, is a factory-built Porsche Motorsport race car developed specifically for competition in the Grand American Road Racing Association Rolex Sports Car Series.

Unlike a standard one-make Porsche 997 Carrera Cup car, the Grand-Am Cup was engineered and modified by Porsche Motorsport to meet the unique requirements of Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series competition.
These cars were built for endurance racing, including demanding events such as the 24 Hours of Daytona, where durability, consistency, and serviceability were every bit as important as outright speed.

Produced in extremely small numbers estimated at only 11 examples worldwide the 997.1 GT3 Grand-Am Cup Car offers an interesting opportunity for serious collectors, historic racers, and Porsche enthusiasts looking for genuine factory motorsport provenance.
Eligible for select premier historic and vintage motorsport events, including opportunities such as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

To comply with Grand-Am’s rules and endurance requirements, Porsche incorporated racing parts from the GT3 RSR and Cup S programs.

The 997.1 Grand-Am Cup cars were initially delivered with standard Cup fenders, fixed dampers, and no rear wing.
Crawford Composites later supplied the front fenders and larger rear wing.
The chassis was reinforced around the taillight area to provide additional strength for the larger Crawford rear wing.

Teams upgraded the cars with three-way adjustable dampers, cockpit-adjustable sway bars, and Brembo endurance brake calipers.
To meet Grand-Am regulations, the cars were equipped with BBS multi-piece five-lug alloy wheels and an additional door beam integrated into the roll cage.
A 120-liter racing fuel cell replaced the standard production fuel tank.
The cars used a dual-resonance flap intake, with RSR-derived exhaust headers and muffler.

This 997.1 Grand-Am Cup has been upgraded with an Autometrics-built 4.2-liter engine, paired with a transmission fitted with Daytona gear ratios for an approximate top speed of 190 mph. The engine also features the larger RS intake manifold. Additional upgrades include a Bosch M4 ABS system, Megaline paddle shift, 997.2 shift module, and Recaro P1300 GT seat. The bodywork has been updated with a 2009 Cup S front end, flared rear fenders, and a 997.2 rear deck lid, wing, and airbox, while the wheels have been converted from five-lug to center-lock configuration.
