Description

This 2002 Porsche 996 GT3 RS is one of only fifty cars produced by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach between 2001 and 2004. It is in immaculate condition and ready to race. It was originally purchased from Porsche AG by Rene Snel in 2002 through his paper and cardboard company Golfkarton BV (Paper Projects).

Rene raced at the highest level in his region.
In 2005 Snel Motorsport updated this 996 GT3 RS to RSR specifications. A new 996 GT3 RS bodyshell was purchased from Porsche AG. The car was built to compete against 997 RSR’s in the Dutch Supercar Challenge and Special Tourenwagen Trophy, upgraded with many 997 RSR parts, including ABS, suspension and sequential gearbox. A special 3.9-liter engine was built by Manthey Racing.

In 2009 Rene stopped racing this 996 GT3 RS in favor of a GT2 RSR that Snel Motorsports had been developing.
At this time the 996 GT3 RS engine and gearbox were rebuilt by Manthey Racing.
The car was serviced and started each year to ensure it was in good condition, until it was sold to the current owner in 2015.

Under current ownership it has been fitted with a Megaline paddle shift system. The gearbox has the taller 5th and 6th Daytona gear ratios installed. The stock sequential shifter is included in the sale. A sprint spec. gearbox is available additionally for $15,000.00.
The original Paper Projects livery wrap was reproduced by Andy Blackmore Design and fitted to the car. The current owner has run the car for approximately 10 hours.

In 2002 Porsche produced the Porsche 996 GT3 RS essentially a homologation special limited-production model, built to comply with racing regulations rather than for mass production, only 682 of these high-performance street cars were produced.
The 996 GT3 RS racecar has a strong racing heritage and competed in various racing series, including the American Le Mans Series.

Derived from the dominant 996 GT3 R, the 996 GT3 RS racecar offered several technical improvements, ensuring optimal competitiveness. Porsche Motorsport in Weissach produced fifty 996 GT3 RS racecars. The new rear wing was one of the most striking differences together with the front section and the new aerodynamic package.

Many technical improvements were made to the 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine increasing efficiency and reliability. Producing 420 hp at 8200 rpm and 287 ft lbs. of torque at 7250 rpm. Porsche retained the tried and tested six individual throttle body intake system, titanium internal components and the dry sump oil system with oil-water heat exchanger. Due to the increased torque output the six-speed transaxle gearbox adopted components from the 993 GT2 for durability. An oil water heat exchanger with increased efficiency replaced its predecessors problematic oil air cooled heat exchanger.

The suspension comprised the traditional McPherson struts at the front and the Porsche multi-link rear with multi adjustable dampers with a range of springs available for selection, spherical bearing joints and adjustable anti-roll bars. The brake system with four piston fixed aluminum calipers with 32 mm thick, ventilated rotors, 380 mm diameter at the front and 355 mm diameter at the rear.

The 996 GT3 RS was successful in its class, it also achieved overall victories at the 2003 Daytona 24-hour race with Jörg Bergmeister and Timo Bernhard prevailing over the more powerful new Daytona Prototypes. The same year for the first time in the history of the FIA GT Championship, driving an NGT car, Stéphane Ortelli, Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas won the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race.

For the 2004 and 2005 racing season, Porsche Motorsport changed to the newly developed 996 RSR.
